Why is attending a puppy class reccomended? It is really important for the puppy to learn their social skills, such as bite inhibition, approaches towards other dogs and appropriate play. They also need to learn to listen to, and interact with their owners around other dogs, people and distractions as soon as possible. The benefits of training in an outdoor environment with all the natural distractions such as scents, wildlife and noise will give your puppy the best start possible.
How old does my puppy need to be to attend? Your puppy can attend class after their first jabs. The classes run up to the age of six months.
How do I register my puppy with the club? An annual registration form must be completed before starting your first session. The form can be downloaded here. Please remember to bring along your vaccination record. We do have a microchip scanner on site if needed. This form must be completed before taking part in anything the club offers.
What do I need to bring to sessions? Do not feed your puppy at least 2 hours before doing any training. Please ensure you bring with you a motivational toy and/or high value soft treats that your puppy likes. Poo bags are also essential, however if you have forgotten bags or treats, you can buy them from our dog shop on site.
When do you run your puppy classes? We currently run three puppy classes. Wednesdays at 9.30am, Saturdays at 9.30am and on Sundays at 9.30am. You are more than welcome to attend either or both classes. Each session lasts about 1 hour and 15 mins including the socialisation period held after each lesson.
What can I expect from this class? This depends on the abilities of each dog and handler however at any point you can undertake an assessment to obtain a certificate of achievement. Progression to adolescent obedience can only take place once your dog has reached 6 months of age.
How much does the class cost? Each class costs £12. Spectators are welcome as long as they do not interfere with the training. Children must be supervised by an appropriate adult at all times whilst on site. Toilets are available and free tea and coffee is provided at the end of the class whilst the puppies socialise. You are responsible for your dogs behaviour at all times. Dogs can be unpredictable in their behaviour at times and although the risk is minimal that is the nature of a dog training and socialisation environment. Please read our full terms and conditions for further details.
